What it means
↑ Upright
A circle closed. Inside a wreath of laurel the dancer moves freely while the four living creatures watch from the corners, and the card points to completion — work brought to its end, a stage fulfilled, perhaps travel or a change of place that opens a wider field. Recognize what you have finished, take its reward, and carry it with you into whatever comes next.
↓ Reversed
The circle is nearly closed and does not quite close: a last step left untaken, a loose end that keeps the whole thing from settling. Staying put can feel like safety when it is only standing still, so find the one piece still outstanding, finish it or let it go, and allow the matter to be complete.
A dancer moves inside an oval wreath of laurel, the victor's crown, bound top and bottom with ribbon, holding a wand in each hand where the Magician held only one. The angel, eagle, bull and lion of the Wheel of Fortune return in the corners, now without their books, commonly read as the lesson learned. Waite calls the card the perfection and end of the cosmos, the rapture of the universe when it understands itself.
Upright
Assured success, recompense, voyage, route, emigration, flight, change of place.
Reversed
Inertia, fixity, stagnation, permanence.
