What it means
↑ Upright
Full tilt, armed but not for war, the rider passes the pyramids without stopping: departure, a move, a sudden appetite for elsewhere. If it is someone else, a warm, daring person quick to leave; if it is you, a call to go while the fire is lit. Pack light, and tell the people staying behind where you are going.
↓ Reversed
The same speed with nowhere to put it: plans broken off midway, a rash exit, friction with whoever is left standing. In another person, charm that comes with a short fuse; in you, the urge to bolt rather than mend. Before breaking with anything, finish the one conversation that would otherwise be left in pieces.
A knight in armor rides a rearing horse past the desert pyramids, a short staff in leaf raised in one hand. Flame-like plumes stream from his helmet and his surcoat is covered with salamanders, so fire is in every detail. Waite says the motion of the horse is the key to its rider: eager, hasty, already halfway to somewhere else, and on a journey rather than a campaign.
Upright
Departure, absence, flight, emigration. A dark young man, friendly. Change of residence.
Reversed
Rupture, division, interruption, discord.
